CAMPER CRUISING

[2: It doesn't get more straightforward than this one...read on]

ADDED TO THE STABLE:

Wellllll...since writing the Who the heck is this guy? page, a new (dream) addition has been made to my life.

Introducing PanZer:

Volkswagen T2 Bay

1973 - Devon Conversion

1950cc Porsche Engine

Why PanZer? If you heard it start up you'd know why. It sounds like a tank; with its twin Yamaha R1 exhaust cans - yep...the previous owner put motorbike silencers on it. Fantastic! I'm going to show my age here with this confession. When I was a kid, the whole family used to love the show 'Allo 'Allo!. There was a character (a Nazi...so no similarities other than the following) who used to brag about driving around in his "little tank". Whilst working the grounds of the family home we used to joke that I too enjoyed riding around on my little tank - an Iseki 2160 tractor...which was designed for working Paddy Fields - a nice little nod to my time in the Orient.

[Holy smokes, Pan & Tat look good together]

The purchase of this beauty all came together as somewhat of a surprise. On becoming jobless and homeless, a friend of mine (it was taken as flippantly at the time) suggested I get a camper van. I gave it a seconds thought and then found myself checking out various websites to explore the idea further. This particular option stood out against all others (I was researching not just VWs but also more modern converted vans). I was hooked! One problem...I was in Hong Kong at the time and the vehicle was on the north east coast of England. Two nail biting months passed by (and a few unanswered emails sent to the seller's representative - the seller was also 'out of town' for most of the time I was in HK). I took the view that my obsession had to cease, and if it was available on my return to the UK then I would at least go and take a look at it.

It was still available! I jumped in the car, left Base Camp UK and drove the 280miles (during one heck of a storm) in the hope that the photos did it justice in person - they did, so I made an offer. The seller and I actually got on brilliantly (interesting chap), with the possibility of doing some mini documentaries hatched as a plan for the future.

The future...that is where PanZer exists in my mind, for the moment. However, I am working hard right now to get the interior completed to my liking, comfort and practical requirements - which has been quite the diversion from getting on with work for Transmissions.Center. Not to worry. All in good time.
